Fruit and Veggie Wash

Fruit and Veggie Wash


3 cups filtered water
3 tablespoons white distilled or apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons baking soda


Mix the water, vinegar, and bakind soda together in a spray bottle or bowl, depending on how you will use it.


Spray bottle: Spray it on fruits and veggies. Scrub firm fruits and veggies (ie carrots, cucumbers, apples, pototoes). Rinse well and carry on.


Dunk tonic: Dunk, swish, and scrub the produce as desired. Put veggies in a colander or strainer that fits inside the bowl for easy draining and allow you to use the same batch of tonic multiple times. Rinse well and carry on.

Clean and Clear Glass Spray

Clean and Clear Glass Spray

1/4 c white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap (dish soap or castille soap)
1 3/4 c water
8 drops essential oils of your choice (see my Essential-oil aroma combos post)

In a spray bottle, mix together all the ingredients. Spray the cleaner of glass, windows, and mirrors and wipe until clear and dry. Newspaper or coffee filters work wonders to wipe up without leaving those annoying little fibers everywhere. That's how I'm using up the rest of my bleached coffee filters. Also, newspaper can still be recycled after you use it! woot!

Word of advice:
When switching from ammonia-base products, you may see streaks after the first application of an ammonia free product. They are from the residue of the old glass cleaner. To get rid of those nasty streaks, use the ammonnia-free product two or three times to remove the buildup. Its a little extra effort, but you'll only have to do it once. Its worth it to be green! Lavender Lemon Disinfecting Spirits Spray


1/4 cup cheap vodka
1/2 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide
1 cup water
5 drops grapefruit seed extract
10 drops essential oil of lavener (optional)
5 drops essential oil of lemon (optional)
Spray bottle


In a spray bottle, combine all the ingredients and swirl to mix them. DO NOT shake the botle vigorously or the active oxygen in the hydrogen peroxide will go flat and lose its action. Spray the surface and wipe it, or spray it and let it dry. It will keep indefinitely. Recipe from "Easy Green Living" by Renee Loux.

Sparkly clean showers and the verse of the week.

Try this for a sparkly clean shower


1 c vinegar
1 c water
1 spray bottle


Heat up the vinegar and water in a microwave safe container until warm. Spray down the entire shower and wait 10 minutes. Go back and wipe down the entire shower with a scrubby sponge. Rinse and voila, sparkly clean. To clean your showerhead, mix up some more solution and put it in a bowl (or bag if your's isn't handheld-use tape to keep it on) to soak. I found that I still had water spots after using this which I conclude was from rinsing with the crappy water here at the campground. Next time I clean it, I shall splurge for distilled water. Then use car wax to help the water bead off. I forget what website I got this off of, but you should check out the post from Oct. 24 about Extraordinary uses for Ordinary Things by the readers digest. I'm always extremely interested in the uses for vinegar and baking soda (two things any green activist - or frugal person - should have in abundance in their house).

An awesome book by Readers Digest. Although they do have things in there that aren't "green," it has many uses for many green things. Also it truely helps with the frugal living of us poor (or cheaper) folks. :D Everyone - STOCK UP ON VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA. They are cleaning life savers!! Check out this site!

Extraordinary Uses For Ordinary Things

Lemon Dustcloths and the verse of the week.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

James 1:27


Lemon DustCloths
2 parts water
2 parts white distilled vinegar
2 drops lemon oil or olive oil
clean rags
lemons
airtight jar with screw lid.

Make a solution of the water, vinegar and oil. Soak your rags in this solution and squeeze out the excess, leaving them just damp. Pare the rind from several lemons (depending on how many rags your are preparing) and lay a couple of pieces on each smoothed-out rag. Fold each one, or roll it up, and store in a clean jar with an extra piece of lemon peel or two.
